The first Belgian citizen has died after being infected with the new coronavirus, the government said Wednesday.
The death of the 90-year-old patient was confirmed by Belgian Health Minister Maggie De Block and Alain Maron, who is in charge of public health in the Brussels-Capital Region.
“The patient died in spite of the quality of the medical teams care,” De Block said according to Belgian newspaper Le Soir.
“Today, our thoughts are with the family, but also with the medical staff who have been working tirelessly, professionally and calmly since the arrival of the coronavirus,” Maron said.
