A meeting of European ambassadors set to take place Friday was canceled after Croatias representative went into a precautionary quarantine because of the coronavirus.
A spokesperson for Croatias Permanent Representation to the EU told POLITICO that their ambassador, Irena Andrassy, was in a “meeting with a Council colleague who is confirmed to have contracted the virus. Therefore, she has put herself in isolation out of precaution.”
Andrassy is scheduled to chair an emergency coordination meeting on the coronavirus outbreak next week, since Croatia holds the rotating presidency of the Council. When asked whether the ambassador will chair the meeting, Croatias Coreper II spokesperson Goranka Primc told POLITICO, “We are now just waiting. We dont know at this point.”
After a first case of coronavirus within the Council was reported Wednesday, the Council was on Friday informed that a second colleague had tested positive — he works within the Councils justice and home affairs directorate, according to a spokesperson for the Councils general secretariat.
He was in a meeting with Andrassy and other external delegates on Monday and has been out of the office since.
