LeBron James plan to hand his no.23 jersey to LA Lakers new boy Anthony Davis has been blocked by Nike.
James announced plans last month to give up the no.23 jersey in favour for no.6, which he wore at Miami Heat.
Davis has worn no.23 for the duration of his career in New Orleans and was keen to keep it when he moves to the west coast for the 2019/20 season.
The Lakers informed the league of their decision but, having missed the leagues March 15th deadline, the NBA said the move would need Nikes permission as they are the manufacturer.
However, according to Yahoo, Nike have blocked the move due to the financial hit they would take.
The American sportswear giants cited production issues as one of the main reasons they couldnt sanction the move, given theyve already mass produced no.23 jerseys in James name.
James will therefore keep the no.23 jersey this season, meaning Davis will have to take up a new number for one season only.
