Showcase meeting, with track good 4 and rail true, so predominantly even early before gradual trend away from the fence.

RACE 1 – 12.00PM: VINIDEX SHOWCASE MAIDEN PLATE (800m)

Flying start for the short-coursers at set weights, and three-year-old Grafton gelding 1. A Bute Scott (Rothesay x Ekleel by Fantastic Light) will be hard to catch if he runs up to his flying trial win by a big space this track back in January, but he's taken a while to get to the races. Lugging bit on.

Dangers: Consistent two-year-old Port Macquarie gelding 9. Full Of Spirit has run three straight seconds sitting on speed. Sneaking down in the weights now and gets a lovely trailing draw. Another two-year-old, Wauchope-trained 10. Tallis, has been swamped late in consecutive 1000m runs after showing early speed so back in trip a big plus, although drawn off the track.
How to play it: A Bute Scott to win and quinella 1 and 9.

RACE 2 – 12.35PM: RHEEM SHOWCASE MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)

More open affair here, but keen on four-year-old Grafton mare 11. Savanna Jeune which resumes off a long spell without an official trial. Hit the line hard in her last couple at Lismore and Kempsey from off the speed, and drawn to get an ideal trail third-up.
Dangers: Liked the second-up run under 59kg of Newcastle filly 7. Celebrita's Choice. At home, and down in weight, only has to overcome the wide barrier to be in the finish. Local mare 12. The Timewarp is another fit and serious chance which likes to drift back and finish fast, although will need luck, and still searching for her first win at 10th start. Another local mare, 8. Dawn Thunder, also boasts the form to be in the finish but will have to begin well to push forward from a wide draw. Newcastle three-year-old gelding 4. Ragnor (Snitzel x Sunset Express by Success Express) has been given plenty of time at the trials by leading trainer, and last effort at home was solid through the line. Draws the fence for debut. Three-year-old Gold Coast visitor 6. Wots Wong was close-up as an even money favourite on debut at Ipswich, and wouldn't need to improve much to win this.
How to play it: Savanna Jeune each way and quinella 7 and 11.

RACE 3 – 1.10PM: PIPE KING SHOWCASE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m)

Port Macquarie mare 3. Veganza just needs some cover early from the wide and tricky barrier to be the one to beat. Had two quiet trials before a strong finishing effort first-up at Grafton, and well in at the weights.
Dangers: Well-bred local filly 6. Delayed Response found the line nicely resuming at Grafton, and draws to park midfield with plenty of cover. Debutant three-year-old gelding 1. Lucitor (Lucas Cranach x Capacitor by Charge Forward) is an intriguingly-bred cross of staying power and speed. Has been taken along slowly at the trials and must be respected for leading trainer/rider combination with the blinkers on, but this weight on debut is a big ask. Four-year-old Grafton gelding 4. Celebration Day hasn't run a place in five starts, but form is way better than it looks, and sneaking right down in the weights after promising rider's 3kg claim. Former Victorian filly 12. Night Terror made a nice debut for wily new stable, and carries her lightest weight in a long while.
How to play it: Veganza to win and trifecta: 3-6/1-3-4-6-12.

RACE 4 – 1.45PM: REECE PLUMBING CUP BENCHMARK 74 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (2000m)

Competitive race, but on the score of scope and potential, four-year-old Gold Coast-based gelding 7. Proud Captain should have them covered despite climbing in distance. Finished strong to win a class 3 at the Sunshine Coast second-up in heavy ground, and improves again back on firmer footing.
Dangers: Loved the hit-and-run raid from four-year-old Gosford gelding 6. Balmaceda at Wagga in a dominant BM66 win, but this is tougher and draws out. Gold Coast mare 2. Fairlighting improved to just miss over a similar trip and grade at Ipswich last start when heavily backed, although best form is on soft tracks and also rises in weight. Ballina mare 3. I'll Miss You won at big odds at Grafton before way out of her depth in the longer Gold Coast Cup. Has been freshened with a trial, and can rebound dropping well back in grade. Gold Coast visitor and eight-year-old gelding 4. Meteorologist keeps running honest races. Won a decent BM70 four back when sweeping over the top, and comes out of that same Ipswich race as Fairlighting when just fair to the line.
How to play it: Proud Captain to win.

RACE 5 – 2.25PM: TIMBERLINE BP SHOWCASE CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)

Open battle, this, but three-year-old Port Macquarie gelding 4. Nobody's Perfect is the best weighted runner in the race. Improved to score a dominant maiden win under 59kg, and while this is stronger, drops to 54.5kg after rider's full claim and draws a nice barrier.
Dangers: Three-year-old Armidale gelding 16. Cos I'm Good has placed four times from six starts, and finished hard under 59kg in a good quality maiden at Gunnedah last start. Drops in weight, and with any sort of cover in running will be rattling home. Stable had also accepted for Scone, but declared its hand early. Five-year-old Gold Coast gelding 2. China Plate has only won one from nine but improved nicely in two runs back from a spell, and while not treated well at the weights, stable is having a big run. Local mare 8. Eye Was has an ordinary strike rate, but going better than form suggests. Will settle back midfield and watch for her late.
How to play it: Nobody's Perfect to win and box exacta 2-4-16.

RACE 6 – 3.05PM: HALGAN CLASS 2 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1000m)

Good sprint. Very keen on four-year-old Ballina gelding 4. See It Thru which looked strong under a hold in a recent trial, and draws nicely for first run this region. Only start earlier this year in Victoria cruised home as an odds-on favourite.
Dangers: Port Macquarie filly 8. Gold Rhapsody improved for a dominant home-track class 1 win last start chasing a good speed, and looks well in at the weights despite the rise in class. Stable is underrated. Grafton filly 9. Lady Clare is ready for this tougher assignment after an easy BM58 win at home, and also down in weight with a nice trailing draw. Three-year-old Gold Coast gelding 2. Hemsted resumes off two trials. Handicapper hasn't missed him, but normally comes to hand quickly, and this isn't overly strong. Local four-year-old gelding 3. Bolghari will give a big sight down in weight and dropping back in trip. WRead More – Source
