Partnerships with religious and community leaders, young people and health workers may be needed to come up with "more culturally-sensitive and community-engaging strategies" to drive the practice downward, the authors suggest.The report notes that while female genital mutilation is most prevalent in Africa and some Middle Eastern regions, research shows that the practice also exists elsewhere in Asia and the Middle East. It is reported in Europe, North and South America too, particularly as a result of migration.
