THEY say you cant keep a good man down.
Banned for the first two days of Glorious Goodwood and stripped of the chance to ride Stradivarius, whom he won his sixth Ascot Gold Cup on last month, Frankie Dettori will be raring to go on his return to the saddle on the Sussex Downs today.
The Italian has been sitting on the sidelines after incurring a six-day ban at Newmarkets July Festival and he returns to the sphere with a strong book of rides.
The pick of those may be NEVERLAND ROCK for the in-form Richard Hannon yard in the Group Two Richmond Stakes (3.00pm).
The half a million-pound purchase showed plenty of ability when fifth on debut at Newbury.
He was finishing better than anything in the closing stages having run into traffic problems and was ultimately unlucky not to have got amongst the places.
The son of No Nay Never entered the notebook with that performance and then repaid the faith when winning next time up at Newmarket.
Stepped up to seven furlongs, Hannons two-year-old got a clear run and picked up nicely without two much persuading from Pat Dobbs.
He couldnt peg back Quorto on his most recent start in the Group Two Superlative Stakes over seven furlongs, and ultimately looked a little tired when nabbed by Cape Of Good Hope late on to finish third.
The return to six furlongs is no concern for this speedy colt who certainly isnt there to make up the numbers and looks a cracking each-way bet at 7/1 with Coral.
Marie's Diamond is very consistent and looks likely to land himself in the places again, but hes half the price of Neverland Rock.
Land Force of Aidan OBriens is yet to finish out of the first three in his five career starts and warrants plenty of respect too.
Also a son of speedy US sire No Nay Never, hes already a winner over both five and six furlongs and could be a future flag-bearer in the sprinting ranks for his all-powerful yard.
From the precocious young colts to the fillies hoping to last out the 1m6f trip in this afternoons Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes (2.25pm),
Im hoping PRECIOUS RAMOTSWE can provide Dettori with his first winner of the day.
Quick ground over 1m4f wasnt the ideal setup for the daughter of Nathaniel in the Group Two Lancashire Oaks at the start of last month and she has every chance stepping back up in trip today.
This race was marked out as a target immediately after her exertions in the Lancashire Oaks and trainer John Gosden will be pleased with the little bit of juice that got into the ground earlier this week.
Shes won her four other starts, including in Group Three company over 1m5½f at York, and should go very close to making it five from six at odds of 6/1.
Dettori also has a nice ride in the shape of 11/4 shot Veracious in the feature race of the day, the Qatar Nassau Stakes (3.35pm), so it would be no surprise to see his famous flying dismount at least once today.
