The former Twitter contractor who claims he shut down President Donald Trump’s account on the social media platform last month told Reuters in an interview in his native Germany that he did so by accident.

Still, Bahtiyar Duysak said he believes some of Trump’s activity on Twitter violates the website’s rules against hate speech.

“You don’t need to be an expert to understand that a policy violation has happened, that the rules were broken and that this can lead to hatred being spread,” said Duysak, who worked as a safety policy operations agent at Twitter beginning last summer.

Duysak specifically pointed to Trump’s retweeting of anti-Muslim videos from a far-right, ultranationalist British group as an example of the president violating Twitter’s prohibition on hate speech.

Trump’s Twitter account, the president’s preferred social media platform, went offline early last month for roughly 11 minutes. Duysak, who was an hour away from the end of his final day at Twitter’s San Francisco offices, said he clicked “a few wrong things which I shouldn’t have done.” He told Reuters he believed he was dealing with one of the many fake Trump accounts that exist on Twitter.

“You should always double-check things before taking an action,” he said.

Duysak said he had apologized to Twitter for the removal of Trump’s account and made peace with the social media giant.
