Race-by-race preview and tips for Gosford on Thursday

Track soft 5/6 and rail out 3m, so predominantly on pace.

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1200m)

Tricky little battle of speed and tactics. Rosehill 3YO gelding 1. Blazing bolted in a trial before debuting with a fair effort behind a smart one this track, and can expect natural improvement.

Randwick colt and hot favourite 2. Warfare hasn't missed by much at first two career runs when well in the market and should be advantaged here around a tighter track pushing forward from a middle gate. Former Tasmanian mare 5. Rubikat improved at her second run for new Wyong stable and gets a cosy run right behind the speed.
How to play it: Blazing to win and quinella 1 and 2

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)

Again tempo will be crucial in a smaller field over the mile and that should suit 3YO Godolphin filly 7. Pellicle fourth-up this prep. Has closed nicely in her last couple at Kembla and in what will be a moderately run race is drawn to park right behind the speed.

Dangers: Looks a nice trip second-up for 3YO Warwick Farm gelding 2. Fairy Me Home who found the line nicely resuming at Kembla, and second-placed from that race Warfare can provide a key pointer from previous race. Kembla 3YO gelding 3. Hamogany also finished off okay over the same track and distance from that home track meeting. Drawn to get plenty of early cover and will appreciate the extra ground. Randwick colt 4. Highland Skipper is third-up with the blinkers going on. Bred to get over much further, and yet another runner coming off a nice closing effort on that same day at Kembla.
How to play it: Pellicle to win and box first four 2-3-4-7

Race 3 BM 64 HCP (1600m)

Small but quality field. Consistent Newcastle 3YO gelding 3. Time Raid was heavily backed in a BM 70 last start but ridden out of his comfort zone in front which didn't suit. Previous form was very sound and draws to take a nice trail right behind the speed with the blinkers coming off. The one to beat in just his second prep and was scratched from Warwick Farm on Wednesday for this.

Dangers: Rosehill 4YO gelding 4. Andaz came back from a disappointing campaign in Melbourne, and has hit the line hard last couple in stronger grade and stepping up to a mile looks ideal. Warwick Farm 5YO gelding 1. Nacho Libre hit his straps fourth-up this track and grade but draws a little wider and up to ceiling weight. Randwick 3YO filly 6. Smart Decision cruised home to win her maiden as a hot favourite at Newcastle and looks ready for this grade. Will get an economical run from the inside draw. Watch out for Gosford 5YO gelding 5. Albert Of Monaco running on late. Still short of his best but back on home track and is a second-up winner.
How to play it: Time Raid to win and first four 3-4/1-3-4-5-6

Race 4 BM 70 HCP (1900m)

Lightly raced and capable 4YO Wyong gelding 1. Jazzland didn't fire second-up in a stronger BM 78 at Rosehill, but back in grade third-up he looks the benchmark after being scratched from a BM 74 at Warwick Farm on Wednesday to run in this.

Dangers: Local mare 2. Wild About Her comes out of that same race as Jazzland behind the smart So You Win when well beaten from a midfield position, but also better suited here from a cosier draw nudging up in trip. Consistent Wyong 4YO gelding 3. Seeingisbelieving just missed in two straight runs at home before putting them away easy enough in weaker grade last start. Down in weight but this is stronger and draws out. Local 4YO gelding 4. Balmaceda proved way too good in a thin BM 66 two runs back at Wagga before fighting on from the front in a deeper race at Coffs Harbour. Hard fit and sneaking down in weight, so will give a big sight on-speed.
How to play it: Jazzland to win and trifecta 1-2/1-2-3-4

Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (1100m)

Tricky assessment on widespread form-lines but second-up 2YO Warwick Farm filly 8. Glamour Fox gets into her weakest career race so far. Was outclassed in much tougher metro maiden company twice earlier this year before resuming with a strong closing effort at Nowra at big odds.

Dangers: Coffs Harbour 4YO gelding 2. Money Travels hit the line hard resuming at Wyong and draws to get a nice trail just off the speed. Wyong filly 4. Fearless Mila is first-up without an official trial, but on debut in January was only over-run late as a short-priced favourite at Taree. Big watch on local 3YO gelding 1. Horora Vel, who hasn't raced for more than a year but has had two trials, and stable has a knack of getting them ready off long breaks. Big watch on resuming 2YO Randwick filly 10. Pair Of Heels, by Cox Plate winner Adelaide, who was also outclassed in much deeper maiden company on debut but has had two quieter trials. Include Newcastle filly 6. Dragon's Beauty who closed off strongly resuming at Muswellbrook in wider exotics.

How to play it: Glamour Fox to win

Race 6 CL2 HCP (1000m)

Competitive sprint. Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 3. Manly Cove broke his maiden second-up in emphatic fashion from the front this track, and looks hard to stop again down in weight over the same trip, despite facing stronger opposition. With plenty of speed around, doesn't have to lead.

Dangers: Randwick 3YO filly 1. Natalia returns off a six-month break behind two smart trials for top stable. Has been good first-up in both previous preps and in well at the weights after rider's 3kg claim. Newcastle 3YO gelding 7. Nostro Re is bred for real speed and destroyed his rivals on debut at Taree. Drops significantly in weight for this tougher test but draws wide and has to cope with plenty of speed underneath, so how he leaves the barrier will be vital. Warwick Farm 5YO mare 5. Moccasin Miss is consistent despite finding it hard to win, but will also rush forward from a nice draw and give a big sight over this journeyRead More – Source
