In the past the Hawks have known to be inconsistent when playing away from home but they went against reputation with a convincing win against Harvey Bulls. Hawks' coach Matt Jamieson said the side did prove last year that they could win on the road and with more players available this season it should be no different. Jamieson said it was a slow start for the Hawks as they faced a young and inexperienced Harvey side. AMR kept the Bulls to just two scoring shots in the second term which both resulted in behinds. While missing some opportunities, the Hawks were still able to extend the lead with two goals and six behinds. The half time score was 1.5 (11) to 5.10(40). The Hawks went into the second half with two men injured after Ricky Cary went down early in the match with a jarred knee and another player went off with a concussion after a marking contest. AMR put their foot down after half time, kicking more accurately with four goals and just one behind. Harvey failed again to put a major score on the board with just three behinds for the third quarter. The fourth term saw a lot scoring from both sides with Harvey managing to post two goals and three behinds. It was never going to come to close to the Hawks though, as they kicked four goals and four behinds. Jamieson said the team was impressive in the second half, considering they only had two on the bench. He said they were aiming to get to 100 points and just missed out. The final score was 3.11. 29 to 13.15 (93). The coach was disappointed to see the side kicked more behinds than goals, but said it was something they were working on. Jamieson said it was a whole team effort to win the match. "It was an even spread with Matthew Jukes, Mitch Lynn who missed round one, Beau Morgan in defence and Braden Smith and Harry Taylor kicking four goals each were highlights," he said. Jamieson said the Easter bye has come at a good time as it would allow a couple of injured players to rest up and be ready for the next match. AMR are back at home for round three when they take on Harvey Brunswick Leschenault. HBL are sitting on the same amount of points as the Hawks but third on the ladder due to percentage. Jamieson said HBL were busy recruiting in the off season and were a bit stiff to miss out on finals last year so he was expecting tough competition. "We look forward to facing them in front of our home crowd," he said. HBL won in round one in a come from a behind match against Busselton. Round two saw them win against Bunbury by 16 points. The Eaton Boomers are on top with a healthy 279 per cent.
