Manchester United have shelved plans to appoint a new sporting director, and are unlikely to hire one while Jose Mourinho remains in charge of the club, reports claim.
The clubs hierarchy were said to have begun their search to fill the potential vacancy – the first of its kind at Old Trafford – with the likes of former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, Romas Monchi and Juventus Fabio Paratici among the names mentioned in association with the post.
However, United have now scrapped those plans for the time being and will not resume their search with Mourinho at the helm, according to the Daily Mail.
The Portuguese remains under huge pressure despite a rousing comeback in a 3-2 win over Newcastle ahead of the international break and defeat to his former side Chelsea would leave him under the cosh once more.
But executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has decided against changing the clubs structure during his third season in charge at the club.

Woodward is open to an appointment from within the club when the restructuring does eventually happen, with several staff members already filling the criteria of the job at United.
Mourinho was heavily critical of those involved in the transfer market this summer for failing to deliver his targets.
