GUWAHATI: Assam government on Tuesday declared the entire state as “disturbed area” for six more months from August 28 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. The term of the current status of the declared disturbed area in the state ends on August 27.
The state government notification states, that the entire state has been declared a disturbed area" in view of the “recent insurgent attacks on security forces in the northeast and recovery of illegal arms and ammunition from different areas of Assam.”
The present six-month term of disturbed area was declared in March last on the grounds that armed outfits may lure youths opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 into joining their groups.
