NEW DELHI: The Centre is likely to bring at least 1,500 more kilometres of national highways under tolling in the next one year. Currently, around 27,000 km NH stretches are under tolling and only in the past one month 12 toll plazas become operational.
“As we complete upgradation of more stretches there will be tolling to generate revenue,” said a source.
According to sources, till January first week NHAI and the highways ministry has built or expanded nearly 7,000 km of national highway stretches, which means the daily construction was close to 26 km.
“Faster completion of NH projects will obviously bring revenue as soon as tolling starts. This has become all the more important since we are offering more completed stretches to the private players under Toll Operate and Transfer (TOT) model where they pay us upfront and they get the toll collection rights.
