NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched "high throughput" Covid-19 testing facilities in Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata, which will ramp up testing capacity and help strengthen early detection and treatment in the country.
While launching the testing facilities through a video link, PM Modi said crores of citizens of the country are fighting the global epidemic very bravely.
Here is what PM Modi said:
* The way right decisions were taken at the right time in the country, today it is a result of those decisions that India is in a much better position than other countries. Today, the death rate due to the coronavirus in our country is much less than the big countries.
* The most important decision for a long fight against corona was that corona specific health infrastructure should be rapidly built in the country. For this reason, the Central government announced a package of Rs 15,000 crore at the very beginning.
* Be it an isolation centre, a Covid special hospital, network of testing, tracing and tracking, India expanded its capabilities at a very fast pace. Today, India has more than 11,000 Covid facilities, more than 11 lakh isolations beds.
* In January, we had only one centre for the coronavirus tests, today around 1,300 labs are working in the whole country. More than 5 lakh tests are being conducted in India every day. In the coming weeks, it is being tried to do 10 lakh tests per day.
* Our scientists are working fast for producing a vaccine. But till there is no effective medicine or vaccine against the virus, masks, distance of 2 metres, hand sanitization are our only options.
