PM Modi to launch Rs 50,000 crore job plan for migrants in 6 states

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday unveiled a Rs 50,000 crore plan to provide jobs to returning migrants spread across 116 districts in six states, a move aimed at blunting criticism over the governments handling of the migration triggered by the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
PM Narendra Modi will launch the plan under the governments Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana through video conference on June 20 from a village in Khagaria district in Bihar where elections are due later this year.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharamana told a news conference that the 125-day campaign will involve “intensified and focused implementation” of 25 different types of works to provide employment to migrant workers and create infrastructure in the rural areas.
“This (Rs 50,000 crore) is part of the budget. What is the key thing this…we are bringing convergence, we are frontloading the money. It is directly tying up with all the migrant workers who have reached their districts… all of them are going to result in asset creation,” Sitharaman said.
Sitharaman said the Centre together with the state governments carried out mapping of skill sets of these migrant workers and most of them have been found to be skilled in some work. Based on this and to mitigate their difficulties during the next four months, the Centre has decided to launch this massive ruraRead More – Source
