NEW DELHI: India's Covid-19 tally stood at 3,66,946 on Thursday with the death toll due to coronavirus at 12,237. Thursday witnessed a big increase in the number of confirmed cases with the highest single-day increase of 12,881 fresh cases, compared to the recent days when the spike had been limited to under 11,000 cases. Here are the updates —

BENGALURU

  • The government has decided to revamp Karnataka Udyog Mitra, the single-window clearance portal for project and investment approvals in the state, to help investors buy land. It has decided to interlink the portal with Bhoomi, an online platform designed to issue records of rights, tenancy and crops (RTC) and Kaveri (Karnataka valuation and e-registration) software of the department of stamps and registration.
  • With more businesses moving parts of their operations online and remote working becoming a standard practice, Karnataka plans to provide greater support to the telecommunications sector and address problems like slow internet speeds and spotty networks.
  • System frailties came into sharp focus during the coronavirus-linked lockdown as the use of technology to stay connected, work and conduct commerce increased considerably.
  • Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa announced 'Mask Day' in Bengaluru. "We have organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha (to Cubbon Park) to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against Covid-19. We are celebrating 'Mask Day' at all district headquarters today," he said.

DELHI

  • The rapid Antigen testing detection centers in Delhi got operational today onwards.
  • Several banquet halls in the capital have been turned into quarantine facilities in view of rise of COVID-19 cases, reported ANI.
  • Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia has been given additional charge of the health ministry and other departments allocated to Delhi minister Satyendar Jain who was tested Covid-19 positive yesterday.
  • The capitals Covid-19 count crossed 47,000 mark to reach 47,102 with a record 2,414 cases reported on Wednesday. The previous highest spike in daily fresh cases — 2,224 — was recorded on Sunday.
  • Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday tested positive for Covid-19.

MUMBAI

  • The doubling time for Covid-19 cases in the city, the worst hot spot in the country, is now 29 days. It puts Mumbai in a safe zone of sorts, said state Covid task force member Dr Shashank Joshi. “We have either bent the curve or are on the verge of it and, if this trend continues for a month, we will be able to handle Covid-19 very easily,” said Joshi. The doubling time has vastly improved from only 13 days on May 13.
  • Mayor Kishori Pednekar announced that the Mumbai citizens will now be able to get information about the availability of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and ventilators in hospitals across the city through a new mobile app. It would help people during emergency situations, she said after launching the 'Air-Venti' app.
  • Following discrepancies in reporting of Covid-19 deaths, Mumbai civic body has asked all hospitals to henceforth report deaths within 48 hours of occurrence or face action under the Epidemic Act.
