Belgian experts tasked with devising the countrys lockdown exit strategy propose partially relaxing some restrictions on shopping, socializing and outdoor activities from May 3, according to draft recommendations obtained by the newspaper Le Soir.
The draft proposal is to be discussed at Fridays National Security Council, which brings together experts and officials from the national and regional governments.
According to the draft published by Le Soir on Wednesday, the experts suggest reopening those shops where social distancing is possible and allowing people to meet with family or close friends one night a week, in groups of no more than 10.
Parks and playgrounds would reopen and certain outdoor sports would be allowed, but restaurants and bars would remain closed.
The National Security Council also wants to give some clarity on the reopening of schools on Friday, but a decision is complex because education is a regional competence.
Flemish Education Minister Ben Weyts told the regional parliament he had agreed with education authorities to start opening schools again May 15. Schools would reopen gradually and children would only go to school a couple of days a week, in small groups.
