NEW DELHI: Ayodhya Parv, a three-day celebration to showcase the cultural heritage of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, started in Delhi on Friday. This is the first such event organised by the BJP and Ayodhya seers after the Supreme Courts judgment on Ram Janmabhoomi in November last year.
As Ram Dhun (chants of the Lords name) played in the background at the Indira Gandhi National Culture of Arts (IGNCA) grounds in the national capital, visitors thronged stalls that displayed made in Ayodhya wares.
At one kiosk, Jai Prakash and Nand Kishore, visiting Delhi for the first time, were busy serving lentil dumplings, also known as dal fara, a popular snack in Ayodhya. Nearby were stalls selling Ram prasad (a mixture of peanuts and jaggery), wooden khadau, sandalwood and puja items such as conches. A Sita rasoi has also been set up to specially prepare local delicacies. Poetry recitations by locals as well as classical musical performances will take place.
Faizabad BJP MP Lallu Singh, the organiser of the event, said this was an effort to showcase the local produce of Ayodhya. “Whenever Ayodhya is mentioned, only the Ram temple issue is talked about.
