KOZHIKODE: Seven-year-old Madhav, the sole surviving member of his family, reached Nedumbassery airport late on Wednesday night without knowing that the tragedy in Nepal had claimed the lives of his parents (Ranjith Kumar and Indu Lakshmi) and younger brother Vyshnav (2). He survived as he slept in another room at Everest Panorama Resort in Nepals Daman on the fateful night.
Madhav had gone to sleep as soon as the four families checked in at the resort in Nepal on Monday night. As it was biting cold at the popular tourist destination, his parents and his brother went to their family friend Praveens room where a heater was available.
The child, who is unaware of the tragic chain of events, was brought to New Delhi from Nepal by some members of the travelling group. Madhavs uncle Aneesh, who is serving the Army in Uttar Pradesh, received him in Delhi and accompanied him on the flight from Delhi to Nedumbassery (via Bengaluru). They are expected to reach Madhav's maternal home at Mukavoor early on Thursday. His family had flown to Delhi for the holiday trip from Nedumbassery on Friday.
Aneesh told over the phone from New Delhi airport that Madhav was continuously asking about his parents and younger brother. “We havent told him about the deaths despite his repeated queries. He is asking for his parents and younger brother,” he said. Aneesh is the husband of Chitra Lakshmi, Indus sister.
Ranjith Kumars brother-in-law Peethambaran said the child was told his parents would be coming home in another flight very soon. Relatives back home in Kunnamangalam are at pains on how they will comfort him when he sees the bodies of his parents and brother on Friday.
