CHENNAI: As the curtains come down on yet another year, search giant Google has revealed what Indians were most curious about in 2019.
While cricket, politics and movies dominated the minds of people, this year also brought to the forefront people's interest in space science with Chandrayaan 2 emerging in the top three trending searches.
The ICC Cricket World Cup was the most searched topic, with the Lok Sabha elections, Chandrayaan 2, controversial Bollywood movie Kabir Singh and the finale of the Avengers series Endgame rounding off the top five.
IAF wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman was the top trending personality in 2019, followed by singer Lata Mangeshkar and cricketer Yuvraj Singh. Indian educator and mathematician Anand Kumar was at the fourth spot, thanks to Super 30, the Bollywood movie profiling his life.
In case of tasks Indian citizens wanted to learn how to go about, in a positive sign for democracy, majority wanted to understand 'How to Vote' from Google, followed by 'How to link Aadhaar to PAN.' Ways to check NEET results and also select their channel bouquets as per the telecom regulator's new guidelines came in the fourth and fifth spot.
With regard to trending news points of the year, people were most inquisitive about the Lok Sabha election results, the Chandrayaan 2 mission and the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir. For all its plot twists, the Maharashtra assembly elections also made it to the top five.
