5 lakh may take purnima dip in Saryu today

AYODHYA: Over 5 lakh pilgrims expected to stream into the Saryu ghats on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on Tuesday, creating a fresh security challenge for the Ayodhya district administration.
Mythology suggests bathing in the Saryu on Kartik Purnima or the full moon day in the Hindu month of Kartik, washes away all sins. The purnima mahurat begins at moonrise.
Pilgrims have begun arriving in Ayodhya from Monday afternoon. By night, all roads in Ayodhya led to Ram ki Paidi and Naya Ghat, where elaborate arrangements have been made to facilitate rituals, in the first major congregation after the Ayodhya judgment. While several devotees performed rituals at night, many would leave after praying at Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhavan in the morning. The kalpavasis — pilgrims staying in Ayodhya for the past one month or from the day of panchkosi parikrama — are likely to stay back and perform rituals after sunrise.
