NEW DELHI: A day after BJP-RSS and prominent Muslim organisations issued an appeal for peace and harmony ahead of the Supreme Courts Ayodhya verdict, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind faction led by Maulana Arshad Madani on Wednesday said the outfit would accept any verdict, based on facts and evidence.
“We are hopeful that the verdict will be in our favour but even if it is not, we will accept the verdict of the Supreme Court,” Madani asserted.
He, however, said the claim of the Muslims is based on historical facts and evidence that Babri Masjid was constructed without demolishing any temple or any other place of worship. Madani underlined that this is not merely a case of land dispute but a test case of the supremacy of law.
“The case should be adjudicated on the basis of hard facts and evidence and not on the basis of faith and belief,” Madani added.
Madani cited his much talked about meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in September, saying JUH is committed to communal harmony and appealed to all to accept the SC verdict when it comes. He pointed out that RSS has started conversation with the minorities to build on harmony but for any fruitful change, “the engagement has to be regular, long-term and result-oriented and not just words but visible in action”. “JUH has always tried that the Babri Masjid issue should not be politicised and it should be adjudicated through court of law. Hence despite being one of the key litigants in the case since 1961, JUH did not bring the issue on the streets,” he said.
Madani shared that the JUH reconciliation formula during mediation offered that the Muslims will give up the claim on the 'Ram Chabutra' provided the Hindu parties give up their claim over the three-dome portion and its courtyard area. “However, mediation did not succeed as the Hindu parties in the case refused to budge and claimed the entire land,” Madani claimed.
