Alan Shearer has hit back at Michael Owen after his former strike partner claimed that he regrets joining Newcastle United from Real Madrid in 2005.
Owen became Newcastles club-record signing when he joined from Real for a fee of £16.8m but his four-year spell in the northeast was blighted by injury problems.
The former England international managed only 79 appearances for the club, scoring 30 goals and was part of the team that was relegated from the Premier League in 2008-09.
In his upcoming book Reboot – My Life, My Time, Owen admitted that joining Newcastle represented a downward step and criticised the club for believing they are bigger than they are.
Shearer certainly didnt take kindly to Owens comments, Tweeting out a video in response to a quote attributed to Owen saying: I dont need to justify myself to f****** Newcastle fans.

In the video, Owen, while working as a pundit for BT Sport, says: All I did at the end of my career for six, seven years… I hated it. I couldnt wait to retire!
Shearer captioned his post with the words: Yes Michael, we thought that also, whilst on £120k a week….. @nufc
That wasnt the end of the matter, though, as Owen soon sniped back against his former teammate and for a brief time manager, by claiming Shearer tried to leave Newcastle and join Liverpool.

The feud emerged after quotes from Owens new book materialised in the Daily Mirror with the newspaper serialising extracts from it prior to its official release later this week.
In the Mirror article, Owen said: My move to Newcastle was one I really regret – I should have followed my gut instincts from the start. I didnt want to go there – my heart was still set on a return to Liverpool.
