Roger Federer hailed the camaraderie on show between Naomi Osaka and Cori “Coco Gauff” following the pairs US Open clash.
The Swiss – who thrashed David Goffin to book his spot in the quarter-finals – watched the third-round meeting between the young superstars on Saturday night in which world No. 1 Osaka triumphed 6-3 6-0 over the the 15-year-old sensation.
In the immediate aftermath of the straight sets win, Osaka invited a tearful Gauff to give a post-match interview on court before becoming emotional in her own address to the Arthur Ashe crowd.
And Federer was touched by the respectful manner in which the two athletes interacted, believing it was a beautiful moment for the sport.
I was watching while I was having dinner, the world No. 3 said in his post-match interview after a 6-2 6-2 6-0 win over Goffin. The sound wasnt on and then when all of this was happening I tried to put the TV on. I caught the back end of the interview.

To see that camaraderie at the highest level of sport is nice. They are still so young and that rivalry will be nice for years to come. It is nice tennis is that way still and I hope it will be that way for many years, where players are respectful to each other.
