Roger Federer could not hide the bitter disappointment he felt in the aftermath of a painful defeat to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.
While it will be a match remembered throughout the ages, Federer admitted on court he would quickly look to forget the 7-6 (7-5) 1-6 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 13-12 (7-3) loss at the hands of the world No. 1.
In the near-five-hour contest, Federer had multiple chances to get the edge over his great rival, none greater than two championship points on serve at 8-7 in the fifth.
Having come so close, the Swiss was asked if it would be easier to recover from a straight sets loss rather than such a narrow defeat and he confessed he couldnt believe he passed up such an incredible opportunity to win a ninth Wimbledon title.
Its hard to tell. I dont know if losing 2-2-2 feels better than this one, he said. At the end it actually doesnt matter to some extent.
You might feel more disappointed, sad, over-angry. I dont know what I feel right now. I just feel like its such an incredible opportunity missed, I cant believe it.

But when all is said and done, Federer admitted theres little he can do if his younger rivals go on to break his Slam record and is more focused on winning the biggest titles in the sport.
