Collingwood sign pair as decisions loom

Collingwood have taken another step forward as they reposition their list for the future, re-signing consistent wingman Tom Phillips until the end of 2021 while extending exciting young defender Brayden Maynard by two years, tying him to the club until 2022.

The Magpies have been juggling their list since the end of last season, when they reached the grand final and had to work hard to retain Tom Langdon and Darcy Moore after re-signing Jordan De Goey midway through the season to fend off huge offers from North Melbourne and St Kilda.

Exciting forward Jamie Elliott remains out of contract as a free agent having just returned last week from a hamstring injury, while big-bodied midfielder Brayden Sier is expected to attract interest from other clubs while he remains out of contract.

Sier returned to the team on Queens Birthday weekend having battled to reclaim his spot despite a brilliant end to 2018.

With Moore, De Goey and ruckman Brodie Grundy all coming out of contract at the end of 2020, the Magpies are aware they need to position themselves to retain the trio with Grundy certain to attract interest from the Crows as he enters free agency.

However, Magpies list manager Ned Guy said it was ideal for the club to lock in the duo who both finished in the top 10 of Collingwoods best and fairest last season.

The longer-term future of the team sits, in part, with the players we have on our list who are 20-25 years of age, who have established themselves as AFL level players and have their prime years ahead. Brayden and Tom definitely fit into this category, Guy said.

It is clear that they already have important roles to play for us but castinRead More – Source
