Karolina Pliskova became the latest high-profile victim in the womens game on Manic Monday after being stunned by compatriot Karolina Muchova.
The third seed was beaten 13-11 in the deciding set – with the pair narrowly avoiding becoming the first players to contest a 12-12 tiebreak at the All England Club – but will rue missed opportunities as she failed to serve out the match on two occasions in the third.
Pliskova had the chance to return to the world No. 1 ranking if she had reached the final after current incumbant Ash Bartys exit but her own hopes of winning a first Grand Slam title were dashed by her unseeded compatriot.
Muchova, 22, will now contest the quarter-finals in SW19 for the first time – a stage Pliskova is yet to reach – and will take on Ukraines eighth seed Elina Svitolina.

Pliskova was understandably frustrated that she didnt get the opportunity to move on as she became the last of the top-five seeds to fall and described her defeat as a little bit unlucky.

I think she just played good. She had nothing to lose, so some shots were quite understandable. She just went for it. A little bit unlucky, but thats how it is.
Not really surprised [by her opponent]. I think, of course, super effective on grass because the shot stays quite low. We played on hard court, it was different. Of coRead More – Source
