GIL'S GRILL IS BACK
Caretaker coaches Rhyce Shaw and David Teague might be having the time of their lives as interim coaches of North Melbourne and Carlton in the past month as they get their clubs back on the winners list.
But their experience is going to get a whole lot better if they accept an invitation to none other than CEO Gillon McLachlan's place next Monday, July 8, for the annual coaches dinner with the chief.
No-one looks forward to the sight of coaches awkwardly entering McLachlan's place with a bottle of cheap plonk under the arm more than Snapshot so we're pleased to report that the event that started in 2014 is on again.
After his comments about the MCG deal between the AFL and the Victorian Government, Geelong coach Chris Scott should check whether rabbit terrine is on his menu before he digs in. The seating arrangements are always worth noting, with Snapshot suggesting John Longmire next to Shaw, and Nathan Buckley alongside Luke Beveridge would make things interesting.

However we know as both a footy fan (yep that's true) and someone who prefers people to be more comfortable than uncomfortable (that's true too) we reckon he'll be letting people choose their own seats at the annual dinner and giving behavioural awareness officers the night off.
Having Shaw in the mix to liven things up a bit should be a relief to the hosts, as the Swans' premiership player, Teague and Gold Coast's Stuart Dew bringing the number of senior coaches under 40 to three increasing the chances of a Netflix show worth watching being mentioned on the night.
TIME TO LET THE HAIR DOWN
Talk about walking the talk. That's what Carlton's veteran trio Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson and Dale Thomas (who have a combined age of 98) did on Sunday in the dying stages of the nail-biter against Fremantle.
With 828 games experience between them it's no wonder all the talk post-game was about the veterans getting it done in the clutch situation.
"Most of [that talk] was from us," Simpson admitted with a laugh on Tuesday.

It was the first time the trio had each kicked a goal in the same game and 74 games had passed since Simpson and Murphy, who have played 251 games alongside each other, had both kicked a goal in the same game.
But that drought ended in just six minutes of the nail-biter against Fremantle as the pair each kicked a goal in a game for the first time since round 19, 2014, which coincidentally was also a nail-biter in Perth that the home team won.
Simpson's goal came after he copped some lip from the Dockers' crowd as he lined up from the boundary having raced to accept the free kick for out on the full.
"They are not bad pockets at Optus Stadium so they open up a little bit," Simpson said.
The modest duo were entitled to celebrate given wins of that nature have been hard to come by in recent years and the respected ex-skipper's teammates had a laugh when Murphy was caught after the game replaying the candy he sold before he kicked the banana.
Murphy got some sense of how excited his friends were when close to 100 messages were left on his phone, about 98 above the average number of messages he's received post-game in the past few seasons.
And he will always remember the reaction from teammates as the siren went through.
"There was a lot of man love out there after the game," Murphy said.
For Simpson, the moment of grey power was one to savour: "I love seeing those guys do well because they are two of my best mates."
