Brad Fittler made just one vital mistake in Perth on Sunday night: he accidentally left the words to the new NSW team song back in his hotel room.
The players worked hard over the summer to pen a new song because the old one had barely got a start during Queensland's glory years, and the lyrics were quickly forgotten by some of the long-serving Blues.

After one of the all-time Origin performances by a NSW team, the Blues celebrated in the sheds by reverting to the good old-fashioned Happy Birthday to Damien Cook.
They later returned to Fittler's room at the Westin Hotel where they sung the new tune not once but twice.

James Maloney played a big role in coming up with the new song, and it was fitting he was there for the first official rendition, while Dale Finucane is known to have one of the sweetest voices in rugby league.
Blue Wiggle Anthony Field was brought in to share some musical ideas – The Wiggles released their own NSW track a few years ago – while the players started to spitball ideas after they went 2-0 up last year.
NSW Rugby League boss Dave Trodden was one of the first to congratulate Fittler on the sideline at Optus Stadium on Sunday and was seen whispering a few words into his ear.
"I just told Freddy he got my three points for man of the match,'' Trodden told the Herald.
"When things get a little bit hard, great leaders stand up and back themselves, and he stood up and backed himself.
"Teams take on the character of their leader, and the courage and purpose we saw from them tonight came from their coach.
"I don't worry about what other people think. I know the qualities he has. He has courage of his convictions, and he got a bit of reward tonight.
