Sir Alex Ferguson believes Steve Walsh is the ideal candidate to become Manchester United director of football, but he faces a battle to persuade Ed Woodward to agree with him.
Ferguson sees veteran scout Walsh, who received huge credit for the signings of NGolo Kante, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy while he was at Leicester, as the man with the experience and know-how to guide United through a turbulent time.
Walsh has reportedly been discussed as a candidate for the director of football role, and now Sky Sports News report that Ferguson is pushing hard for his appointment.
However, the legendary manager has been hit with some push back from chief executive Ed Woodward, who is not so convinced that Walsh is the man for the job.
Woodward reportedly wants a former player to return to the club and take on the role, so they will have the backing of the fans, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did on his appointment as manager.

Darren Fletcher has been touted as a possible candidate, as has Rio Ferdinand, but neither have the experience in the role that Walsh can boast.
The veterans career in coaching and scouting dates back to the 1970s and includes 16 years of scouting for Chelsea, where he was credited for spotting Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Gianfranco Zola.
