Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes that the big difference between Virgil Van Dijk and John Stones is that the former does not take liberties in defence following the Netherlands 3-1 win over England on Thursday.
England went 1-0 up in the Nations League semi-final through a Marcus Rashford penalty after half an hour before Matthijs De Ligts thumping header in the second half restored parity and sent the tie into extra-time.
The Dutch went 2-1 ahead shortly after the restart after Stones was caught in possession on the edge of his own box by Memphis Depay and although the former Manchester United striker failed to score his shot was saved by Jordan Pickford with Kyle Walker diverting the rebound into his own net.
Quincy Promes made sure of the win six minutes from time when he pounced on a slack pass by Ross Barkley to bury a shot beyond Pickford and England were criticised for throwing the game away after committing two sloppy errors.

Stones, in particular, was condemned over his part in the second goal and Redknapp suggested that Van Dijk would never have made such a calamitous mistake at the other end.

Speaking on Sky Sports post-match, Redknapp said: Theres a reason why Virgil van Dijk is the best defender in the world, its because he doesnt take liberties. Do you think in that moment on the ball, hes going to pirouette on the ball?
Were not saying lets rip this apart, otherwise youve got a major problem because all the kids are playing out from the back now.
