Mark Newnham believes there isnt a horse with stronger form than Quackerjack heading to Randwick on Saturday. Even with 60.5 kilos and an outside barrier, Newnham thinks it will be Quackerjacks turn to to return to the winner's circle.
The three-year-old returned a winner on the Kensington track in April and has form behind some of the more promising gallopers in the country. He was third behind Miltiary Zone, which went on to win the Fred Best Stakes in Brisbane, and Trope in the Hawkesbury Guineas before setting speed for Kolding's 1500-metre track record run at Randwick last time.
“You'll find it hard to find a horse with stronger form. Military Zone went to Brisbane and won and Kolding is the clear favourite for the Queensland Guineas, so he has run into some good ones,” Newnham said.
“He takes on the older horses here but nothing in the sort of class he has met at his last two. He goes on wet or dry and makes his own luck.

“Last start he did all the work and the other bloke was just too good. He should get the front here again, the wide gate isnt so much a worry from the mile at Randwick.
“He is going really well and they will be chasing a long way from home.”
Newnham wont be at Randwick, with two group 1 runners in Brisbane, which have strong each-way claims. Australian Oaks runner-up Scarlet Dream takes on the boys in the Queensland Derby, while Shadow Lord backs up into the JJ Atkins after winning over a mile last week.
The decision to miss last weeks Queensland Oaks might prove a masterstroke with Scarlet Dream, which is an out-and-out stayer.
“She needs the big track to wind up and the way the Derby looks there is going to be a stack of pace, so she will get her chance,” Newnham said. “She has thrived up there and I think she might even be better going into this race than for the Oaks here.
“The thing about her is that 2400m is her trip and we know she will run it right out.”
