Carlton have all but finalised the panel that will select Brendon Boltons replacement, with the group set to meet for the first time later this week.
Although club officials are remaining tight-lipped, The Age understands the panel will consist of chief executive Cain Liddle, football boss Brad Lloyd, football director and club legend Chris Judd and board member David Campbell.
One man the panel is likely to talk to is Sydney premiership coach Paul Roos, who – despite saying he is not interested in coaching Carlton – said he would be willing to discuss a different kind of role in a novel coaching structure at Ikon Park.
Roos, who walked away from the Melbourne job in 2016, told The Age he was happy to discuss an involvement if Carlton wanted to be creative in their coaching set-up.

Clearly Roos was alluding to a mentor-style role, though he did not specify how that might work.
If they want to be different and creative … Im happy to have a chat, Roos said. I suspect theyre looking for a coach (only).
Meanwhile Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said his assistant – former Lions coach and champion Michael Voss — was a potential candidate for the Carlton and North Melbourne vacancies, saying Voss was as well prepared as anyone could be to be a senior coach again.
Hinkley said Voss had worked really hard and educated himself in areas he wasnt quite as confident with when he took on coaching.
Campbell is a partner at Egon Zehnder International, one of the worlds leading advisory and recruitment firms and a lifelong Carlton fan.
Those four will form the nucleus of the panel, although the club hasnt ruled out adding a fifth member – external of the club – in the coming days.
The group is set to meet later this week, where a short list of potential suitors is likely to be fleshed out.
