In a bid to get a further edge over his opponents, he has focused on mental and physical recovery to remain at this best throughout the season.

“At the moment everyone defends the same, does the same conditioning, does the same plays,” Cook said. “Its about how fresh you can keep the body at the top level for the whole season – thats what makes the difference at the end of the season if youre going to win a comp.

Cook is a partner in La Cure, a health and wellness centre that offers services including cryotherapy, infrared sauna and even intravenous therapy. The Caringbah firm has only just officially opened its doors to the public, Cook juggling the project with his responsibilities at dummy half for club and state.
The former Dragons and Bulldogs hooker uses a combination of products and treatments as part of his prehab and rehab routine.
“We do the cryotherapy and ice baths,” he said. “Youre in there for three minutes and go to sub-zero temperatures. Its really good for inflammation and swelling, and its also a treatment for arthritis. Its for everyone and not just for athletes.
“The other one is the air-relax boots. They are air compression boots that go all the way up your leg and you can get different attachments for your arms as well. They are like a massage, they are becoming really popular. I have a set at home for the last three years.
“The sauna is becoming more popular after the game, for recovery the next day to get the blood pumping again to get a sweat out.
“The float tank is my favourite. I try to do it after the captains run. Its an hour away from your phone. The magnesium salt baths are good for your muscles and you float there in complete darkness and silence.
