Jordan Henderson has revealed that his performances for England in a more advanced midfield role helped to convince Jurgen Klopp to move him there for Liverpool in their last two games.
The 28-year-old has been predominantly utilised as a defensive midfielder over the past couple of seasons but he was shifted into a more attacking position during the wins over Southampton and Porto.
Henderson came off the bench to provide an assist and score the final goal from the right-hand side of Liverpools midfield three as they beat Southampton 3-1 before starting in that position for the 2-0 victory over Porto in the Champions League.
Following Tuesdays win over Porto, Klopp said that he was sorry for restricting the attacking side of Hendersons game and the England international has stated that his manager didnt consider changing his role until they had a discussion.
Obviously, he saw the England games. I felt good playing in that position. I felt more natural and it was something he said he would think about, Henderson told Liverpools website.

I can do both positions and he sees I can do both. Its basically what he wants and needs. I felt more comfortable and natural in that position for England, creating chances further up and doing what I enjoy doing.
At the same time when I played No.6, I felt Ive learned that position really well.

I dont think the manager had thought about it too much until I mentioned it to him… the manager might not have seen me in that position too much.
Its all about putting the team first, I know that, but at the same time I want to contribute as much as I can. I feel as though I can do that more in a position further forward.
