Storm’s Addo-Carr to miss Bulldogs clash as Bellamy praises Pay

Melbourne Storm will be without star winger Josh Addo-Carr for their clash with Canterbury Bulldogs at AAMI Park on Sunday.

The New South Wales flyer withdrew for personal reasons on Saturday after receiving news his grandfather, former Australian boxing champion Wally Carr, had taken a bad turn in hospital where he is battling stage four stomach cancer.

The Storm have had one of their healthiest starts to a season in several years with consistent starting sides and few changes but Addo-Carr left with his team's blessing.

Addo-Carr and his grandfather appeared in the NRL's season launch video and when he scored a try in last week's win over Penrith Addo-Carr unleashed a flurry of punches in tribute to Carr.

Addo-Carr's absence will see one of the Storms most promising young talents handed a debut with Ryan Papanhuyzen to move onto the wing in his place.

Papanhuyzen plays fullback at the lower levels and is seen as a possible starting fullback in the long term but the speedy outside back will show his talents on the wing.

Centre Curtis Scott had a sore shoulder earlier in the week but is expected to play while the Storm will again decide between retaining impressive outside back Marion Seve on the bench or playing an extra forward.

Storm skipper Cameron Smith is nine points away from breaking the NRL points record but Bellamy said his side would place no emphasis on taking Smith to that goal this week.

"If it comes this week great, if not hopefully it comes next week or the week after," Bellamy said.

Bellamy has warned his undefeated side to give the Bulldogs their full respect despite Canterbury's inconsistent start to the season.

Veteran forwards Aiden Tolman, Dylan Napa and Josh Jackson plus back Will Hopoate are all major threats for the Bulldogs while they have unleashed a host of young talents who have impressed Bellamy with their dare and pace.

"Dean Pay has done a terrific job with them," Bellamy said referencing his former assistant coach.

"They have lost some experienced players but the experienced guys who are left are doing a really good job for them then you throw in there some real talented kids.

"They were ultra impressive last week and their control of the ball is exceptional. It's not as if tRead More – Source
