Ian Wright believes Arsenals 5-1 defeat to Liverpool showed that Unai Emery must begin to remove the deadwood from his squad in order to progress.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored an 11th-minute opener at Anfield but Arsenal capitulated after Roberto Firminos equaliser and missed their chance to leapfrog Chelsea into fourth.
Arsenal went on a 22-match unbeaten streak from August to December and looked to be a serious contender for the Premier League top four, but recent results have threatened to derail their season.
The Gunners are scouring the market for reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, with moves for Gary Cahill and Denis Suarez being considered.

Wright has urged Arsenal to dig deep into their pockets and get rid of three or four players who started against Liverpool.
Whats got to happen now is we have to move players on who need to be moved on, Wright said on his official YouTube channel.
What that [Liverpool defeat] showed me is we need players.

Theres about three or four players in that starting line up who should be moved on or should be farmed out in respects of the team because we need to start to progress.
Thats why Im hoping that defeat will help to release some funds for Unai.

He added: ”It is disappointing to end the year on such a defeat that was quite emphatic in the end.
But I think you have to try to take the positives from the team because, last year at this time, I dont think wed won away from home yet and we were nowhere near a 22-game unbeaten run.
