“Whats dangerous about conspiracies is that it hampers sincere mobilization,” Mahjoubi told French radio station France Inter. He added on Twitter social media platforms “should be used to listen, to respond, to inform.”
The popular movement that has raged against French mainstream politics in the past month has been criticized for spreading disinformation online to fire up protesters. Researchers have also found links between the Yellow Jacket activists in France and U.S. alt-right communities and other European far-right activists.
