Carl Frampton insisted he needed time to think about his future in boxing after defeat to Josh Warrington.

The three-time world champion was beaten on points by a tireless Warrington, who retained his IBF Featherweight title.

At 31, Frampton is considering retirement after failing in his attempt to reclaim his status as a world champion.

Frampton had built towards a world title bid for the last year, but now admitted he needed to assess his options.

I have a young family at home and I have been in the game a long time, he said.

Ill make no decisions now but Ill sit down with my team and discuss whats the next move.

Frampton was outfought by Warrington, who set a lightning pace and almost dropped his British rival in the first round.

A cut to Frampton caused the Northern Irishman trouble, but he could not catch Warrington on the scorecards after a slow start.

It just the second defeat of Framptons career, but it means the featherweight has been beaten in each of his last two world title fights.

Warrington is now eyeing a unification fight in 2018, with WBO champion Oscar Valdez the most likely candidate to step in with the Brit.
