The Christmas break is here and theres no better time to go over the season that has been so far, for your local cricket club. The A grade boys are sitting second on the ladder, half a game behind flag favourites St Marys, while they are 5 games ahead of last placed Cowaramup with only 5 games to go in the competition. Scoring the third most runs, the Hawks have taken the most wickets with 66 dismissals in the 7 games so far. Mathew Kent has taken 17 wickets so far at an average of 8.41, with Peter Crimp, 11 @ 13.73, and Rumesh Silva, 10 @ 9.30 the next best. Kent took his 500th wicket for the club in a massive achievement. Shane Joyce is leading the way with the bat for the Hawks, with 211 runs at an average of 35.17 well in front of Chris McLeans 121 @ 17.29 and Kade Dittmar, 109 @ 15.57. Hawks B grade are right in the mix of the competition, in grasping distance of second spot. In what is a seriously close season so far, the Hawks havent quite hit their straps in both batting and bowling. Skipper Maurice Shinnick, 187 runs @ 31.17, Michael Earl, 120 @ 30, are leading the way for the Hawks second team. Youngster Aeodhan Bailey is sitting third with 91 runs and Jude Shinnick has 64 runs to his name but his season has come to an end with an ACL operation being successfully completed a couple of weeks ago. Taj Thomas, 9 wickets at 20.67, and Thomas Standbury, 9 @ 23.22, are leading the bowling so far with veteran Earl having taken 8 wickets @ 9.25. The C grade lads are sitting 5th, only three games from top spot in another close season. Danny Weston is leading by example, the skipper having hit 213 runs at an average of 106.5 and a highest score of 94 not out. Fellow elder statesmen Garrath Stewart, 127 runs and a highest score of 67 not out, Michael Sorenson, 110 with a highest score of 85no and Al Wilkie, 90 runs with a highest score of 40, the mainstays of the season so far. It is a family affair with the ball, with Darcy and Angus Currell both having taken 6 wickets for the third team while that man Wilkie has taken 5 wickets from his 4 games played. Adrian Brown and Sam Robbins, with 4 wickets each, round out the top 5 wicket takers so far this year. The Hawks have played 51 players this season across the 3 grades, and have welcomed several #futurehawks and their families. Ed Cotter, Charlie Walpole and Adam Leahy are three English mates that have fit in really well to the club and have brought a lot of energy. Stuart Roberts is our Welsh import who is just starting to find his feet on the different wickets in Australia, but with a highest score of 57, he looks to be enjoying his time in the middle. Gareth Edmonds, after not playing for a few seasons, has joined the club and is batting in the top order of the a grade side. Harvey Fisher is one of our juniors who has made the step up to senior cricket and is a thoroughly welcomed addition to our C grade team. With a highest score of 29 against ladder leaders Dunsborough, this 13 year old has a bright future ahead. Aaron Thomas has decided to pull the whites back on and join the Hawks this season. Aaron is an opening bowler and handy lower order batsman, who also coaches the MRJCC 11s team as a rival to his team mate Shane Joyce! Luke Sleegers has also debuted for the club as has Monna Ashraf and have both played just the one game so far. We also must make mention of Elle Weston; secretary and canteen manager who has kept the players fed with a fully stocked canteen each week. We look forward to the season starting again after the Christmas bye. Have a merry Christmas, enjoy your time with your families and friends and see you in a couple of weeks!
