The tour to Sri Lanka was Englands first without former captain Alastair Cook, and experienced players Stuart Broad and James Anderson performed limited roles.
The 3-0 win was not only Englands first whitewash in Sri Lanka, but also Roots first series win away from home as captain.

In the past, hes had other high-profile players in the team and hes not had Broad and Anderson in certain games here, Alastair Cook is not there so he can really stamp himself onto this team.

This team is capable of doing some really special things in the future if we maintain this attitude we have as a group. I feel confidence is building.
