Demarai Gray scored Leicester Citys first goal since the tragic death of the clubs owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, but was shown a yellow card for his heartfelt celebration.

Claude Puels side were back in action just a week after Mr Srivaddhanaprabha lost his life, along with two of his staff members, Nusara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare and pilot Eric Swaffer and his partner Izabela Roza Lechowicz, in a tragic helicopter crash outside the clubs King Power Stadium.

Players, fans and staff paid tribute to the man who helped mastermind the clubs unprecedented Premier League title winning campaign two years ago, ahead of Saturdays match against Cardiff with a series of touching tributes, while a minutes silence was impeccably observed.

After a goalless first half, Gray broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the re-start, steering home Ben Chillwells left-wing cross in front of the jubilant away fans.

Gray was joined by all of his teammates, including goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel – who ran the length of the pitch to be involved in the emotional scenes – and revealed a T-shirt which read For Khun Vinchai.

The 22-year-olds joy, however, quickly turned to bewilderment when referee Lee Probert brandished a yellow card, abiding by strict Football Association laws which prohibit players from taking off their shirts.

The decision was branded senseless by Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson who told the official to get a life.
