
Barcelona are aiming to scupper Manchester Uniteds plans to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld with an approach of their own in January, according to reports.
The Spanish giants are in the market for a new centre-back and have identified the 29-year-old, who has less than a year remaining in his contract, as an ideal candidate, according to the Mirror.

Barca had been monitoring Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt but have accepted they wont be able to prise the Dutchman out of Amsterdam in the January window.
The Catalan side have held a longstanding interest in Alderwiereld who has been linked with a Spurs exit after falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino towards the end of last season.

He has, however, started seven of Spurs eight league games so far this season but the Premier League side are expected to cash in fear they may lose the player for nothing in the summer.

The north Londoners have the option of triggering a one-year extension on his current contract. But it which would in turn activate a £25million release clause for the final two weeks of next summers transfer window.
When quizzed on his future during the international break, he told reporters in Belgium: Honestly, I am absolutely not thinking about it at the moment.
I feel good, play a lot right now and, therefore, am happy. We shall see.
