Real Madrid president Florentino Perez launched a stinging attack on Inter Milan over their pursuit of Luka Modric this summer, claiming the Serie A giants were trying to sign the Croatian without paying for him.
Modric was honoured with the Uefa Best Player award on Friday during the Champions League draw and has enjoyed a remarkable year for both club and country.
He won the Champions League for a third straight year with Real Madrid before winning the Golden Ball at the World Cup after a string of excellent performances helped Croatia reach the final.
However, his future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been less than clear.
Modric has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, with the Italian side thought to have offered him a lucrative £9million-a-year deal to join.

But Real chief Perez lashed out at Inters conduct in the transfer market and accused them of trying to steal Madrids player without paying for him.
He told journalists at the Champions League draw in Monaco: They tried to sign our number 10 without paying for him.
Its the first time something like that has ever happened to me in my life.
Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti responded to the comments in an interview with Sky Italia, saying: I didnt hear that. When I do, we will look at it as a club.
Modric, meanwhile, appeared to confirm that hell be staying in Madrid beyond the transfer window.
Im not just happy at Real Madrid, Im very happy, he said.
Im at the best club in the world – its where I want to be.
