Manchester United do not want to sack Jose Mourinho, but reportedly see Zinedine Zidane as their first-choice replacement.
Mourinho is under increasing pressure at United to steer the club in the right direction after defeat to Brighton last week.
United have three points from their opening two Premier League games, and Mourinhos mood is at an all-time low at the club.

Mourinho held a tense four-minute press conference on Friday ahead of the Tottenham game, and is reportedly at war with Ed Woodward over the lack of transfer activity this summer.
With the transfer window now closed, the Mirror claim United have no plans to axe Mourinho and want him to demonstrate his pedigree with his current squad.

But, ex-Real boss Zidane is Uniteds first choice should the situation with Mourinho continue to deteriorate.
Zidane is available after the Frenchman decided to exit Real after just a days after winning his third Champions League in a row with the Los Blancos.
The 46-year-old is also thought to be keen on the prospect of managing United and would expect to be contacted should Mourinho exit.
It could cost United £50million to dismiss Mourinho, who signed a new long-term deal until 2020 at the start of the year.
Mourinhos current squads value stands at £700m and United are hopeful their managers talents can help get more out of under-performing players.
United are back in action on Monday night as the Red Devils take on Tottenham at Old Trafford.
I think nobody is happy, obviously, Mourinho told MUTV this week.
