Novak Djokovic thanked Roger Federer for letting him win the Cincinnati Open as he became the first player to triumph at all nine Masters 1000 tournaments.
Djokovic won Wimbledon last month and continued his fine form in Ohio with a straight-sets victory over 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer.
Having already lost five Cincinnati finals – three against Federer – Djokovic was grateful to finally taste victory in the Western & Southern Open.

He said: This is obviously a special moment for me, standing here with a trophy at Cincinnati.
Most of the finals here I lost to this great man [Federer], so thank you for letting me win here for once!

It was a tough match, maybe Roger didnt feel his best but hes a great champion and probably the best ever to play so its always a please to share the court with him.
I want to thank my team and family for their support. In the hard times they were there for me. It seems unreal to be back at this level.
Federer had dropped just one set on his route to the final but was outplayed by Djokovic, losing 6-4 6-4.
Congratulations to Novak for writing history, Federer said on court. Its an amazing effort… not just today but throughout your career. You should be very proud.
