Jose Mourinho has been handed a major boost as Diogo Dalot will take part in full training this week.
The 19-year-old was signed from Porto for £19 million in the summer but arrived with a knee injury.
Dalot has been recovering after undergoing surgery in May and although he travelled with the squad for the clubs pre-season tour of the United States, he trained away from the main group.
But Metro.co.uk understands that Dalot has impressed Uniteds fitness coaches over the weekend and has now been given the green light to take part in drills with the ball.
And United are confident that the defender will be fully training with the rest of his teammates by the end of the week.

It will still take a few weeks for Dalot to get up to speed, and Jose Mourinho has already ruled out selecting his summer signing until September.
Dalot was at Old Trafford to watch Uniteds 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Friday evening and was even filmed celebrating in the stands for Paul Pogbas opening goal.
The Portuguese primarily plays as a right-back and will provide competition for Antonio Valencia, although he is also capable of providing defensive cover on the opposite flank.
