Cape Town – Highlands Park threw away a two-nil lead to sensationally draw 2-2 with Black Leopards at the Makhulong Stadium on Thursday.
The hosts were first with a shot in anger as Mothobi Mvala pulled wide of the goal on three minutes.
Highlands continued to attack and after a brief spell of pressure, Siphesihle Zwane failed to hit the target.
Sphiwe Mahlangu then so nearly gave the promoted side the lead with a header on eight minutes that flew just past the left post.
As Leopards began to get more into the game, a half-chance was created for Karabo Tshepe, who smashed wide, as Rotshidzwa Muleka comfortably saved from Sabelo Nyembe.
Highlands though were soon ahead through Mokoena as his shot on 25 minutes beat the Leopards keeper for a deserved lead.
The away side looked to respond with shots Joseph Mhlongo while the next best chance came towards the end of the half as Mwape Musonda headed just wide of the goal.
Play after the break was stifled as both teams put in some strong challenges. Mhlongo was then unable to keep his effort down as Leopards continued to look for a way back into this tie.
Musonda was getting closer but still not finding the back of the net as Zwane and Mokoena remained a threat at the other end.
Ivan Mahangwahaya put in a spirited performance from the bench, but it was Williams to make the difference from the substitutes as he added a second goal with three minutes of the match remaining.
The Highlands Park player thought he had done enough to be the hero of the day, but Ndlovu scored within three minutes of his introduction, while Musonda completed the comeback two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game.
