WITH no Frankie Dettori at Goodwood this afternoon because of a riding suspension, the stage is set for other jockeys to grab the headlines.
While there has been plenty of coverage about Andrea Atzeni who steps in to replace Dettori on Stradivarius today and Without Parole tomorrow, Im anticipating a huge day for up and coming jockey Jason Watson.
The young Newmarket-based apprentice has been making a name for himself already this year with 46 winners from 295 rides as trainers cotton on to the fact that he is value for his 5lb claim.
He kicks off in the opening 10-furlong handicap (1.50pm) aboard SILVER LINE for Saeed bin Suroor and the pair looked over-priced at 9/1.
The four-year-old was a real eye-catcher at Sandown when stepped up to a mile on his first run back after a break back in June.
He flew home to finish third to Via Serendipity after getting a little outpaced that day suggesting that this distance is well worth a try.
The handicapper has left him unchanged on that mark of 98 so with Watsons 5lb claim he is essentially floating in here off just 93.
The likes of Rainbow Rebel, Afaak and Dark Red are all respected, but if Silver Line stays this trip he is a serious danger to all.
Another trainer to recognise the talents of Watson is in-form John Quinn who saddles EL ASTRONAUTE in the five-furlong sprint handicap (4.45pm).
Last years winner has held his form all season but has gradually crept up the handicap as a result.
Watson takes off some valuable weight aboard a very speedy horse who will take plenty of catching at a best-priced 10/1.
