Manchester United plan to offer Juan Mata a new deal as the Spaniard enters the final year of his current contract at Old Trafford, Metro.co.uk understands.
The Red Devils triggered a 12-month extension clause in Matas contract in January to ensure the midfielder was unable to leave the club on a free at the end of last season.
United were open to offers for Mata, aware that the 30-year-old had his most disappointing campaign at Old Trafford to date last term where he scored just three times in 40 appearances.
The Red Devils expected offers from Spain this summer but Mata generated little interest from his homeland and United are keen to protect their investment in the midfielder.
Metro.co.uk understands the club plan to sit down with Mata and his father when the club return from their pre-season tour of the United States to discuss a new deal.

Mata is happy at Old Trafford and would rather his situation didnt rumble on in a similar fashion to Marouane Fellainis dealings with the club during the last six months.
United plan to offer Mata a new three-year deal – effectively a two-year extension including the 12 months left he has on his current contract – that will keep him tied to the club until 2021.
Mata earns around £150,000-a-week at the Theatre of Dreams and can expect a slight increase.

However, though Mata is valued by Mourinho, the club are still open to letting the Spaniard leave if the right offer came in.
United handed Marcos Rojo a new three-year deal in April but the Red Devils view the Argentinians position at the club in a similar way and will cash in for an acceptable fee.
Mourinho is keen on signing a new right winger but hes been frustrated by the clubs failure to kick on with signings following the early captures of Fred and Diogo Dalot.
The 55-year-old has cut a forlorn figure during press conferences on Uniteds pre-season tour and has bemoaned the players available to him in the States.
United are still working on signing two players with Mourinho targeting a centre-back and a forward in the last fortnight of the transfer window.
