Cape Town – Chippa United coach Dan Malesela believes veteran Daine Klate's outstanding delivery from out wide as well as his experience can be an asset to his side in 2018/19.
Klate, a six-time Premiership champion with SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits, joined the Chilli Boys after deciding not to renew his contract with the Clever Boys.
The 33-year-old has seemingly decided to make a switch to a side closer to home in Port Elizabeth as he maps out the final years of what has been an illustrious career.
Nonetheless, Malesela takes the view that the winger can be a mentor to the younger players as well as be used to promote the team.
He told Kickoff: "The acquisition of Daine was not only the playing part, we need leadership at the club.
"We need ambassadors when we are traveling or whatever. Also, we want to have someone who is originally from the Eastern Cape. So there are a lot of advantages in signing Daine other than the playing part only.
"This is a marketable person and he is someone who can help the club in other aspects of the industry. So we want to use those (qualities) as well."
In addition, the 53-year-old praised his distribution and final ball, saying: "I have decided not to cut certain aspects of the game that can help us. Otherwise, we will become one dimensional or predictable.
"So I want us to have diversity in terms of our attack and say we can go to the side and cross. But that cross is not just a cross, but a pass.
"I don't want those telling crosses, I want a pass to somebody for them to score."
